January 25, 2024.The elusive magic decoder ring.

It is a shame there really isn't a magic decoder ring available today. Ovaltine made a fortune with that jewel. Here is the Captain Midnight Secret Squadron Ring vintage 1945.

The hook: Ovaltine would broadcast secret messages during radio programs they sponsored and your job: Decode the Message. Often the message was: Buy more Ovaltine!

But my desire to have a decoder ring today is to solve some bench issues that have me stumped. Still working on fixing a TR-7 problem and the Seeed, Xiao RP2040 won't talk to me. The situation is made worse by the time sink of my "day job" at the Board & Care. In between I am working on the income taxes for 2023.

Staggering is amount spent on the private care for the XYL.  Think in terms of thousands of Big Mac Meals at Mickey D's. So, not much left over for new radios or radio projects, but the much bigger issue is the time loss.

So, I may be digging back to some older projects to share on the blog, but hopefully covering new aspects that may be relevant today. Or perhaps a subject that involves homebrew of a different variety. Homebrew food!

Just so we are good -- Quiche is not an Italian mispronunciation of the word "quickie".

Pizza Quiche from N6QW

Since the XYL is stashed in the Board and Care, I find it efficient to cook in batches and yesterday I made a "Pizza" Quiche. Essentially, I took ingredients for a pizza topping and folded them into the quiche batter.

Here is the schematic to make this jewel.

  1. One 9" Marie Calendar Deep Dish Frozen Pie Crust
  2. Four large eggs whipped.
  3. 1/3 cup of heavy whipping cream
  4. 1/2 pouch of Tillamook extra sharp white cheddar cheese sold as shredded cheese.
  5. 6 slices of Sandwich Pepperoni cubed into pieces 1/2 X 1/2 inch.
  6. One six ounce can of Lindsay Sliced Black Olives.
  7. One large Roma Tomato cubed into small pieces
  8. A heavy dose of Garlic Powder, Black Pepper and a pinch of salt.
  9. Optional: add a small jar of button mushrooms and/or a small jar of artichoke hearts.
  10. Mix thoroughly and place in the defrosted pie shell that has been punctured so no air pockets.
  11.  Bake for 1 hour at 350F.
I made this about 1pm and when I got home from my shift at 6PM, a short pop of a piece in the microwave and it was like it just came out of the oven. Along with the Pizza Quiche, I had a Zucchini with a bit of the cheese on top and it was a great evening meal, Plenty for lunch and dinner today.

Apologies for not having some special technical topic to jaw about but there is only so much of me and only 24 hours in the day.

Just so there is something electronic in this posting.
