Yikes -- Another Blue Radio!!

It's compulsive ~ another blue radio.

Today I painted the front panel of the JABOM radio. Blue is good! I swear the blue color makes it work better. This was another 20 minute job.

  1. It's a nice blue. It should be named something like "Juliano Blue," "QRP Blue," or "Homebuilt Blue."

    1. The truth is I bought this can on sale at Home Depot and now am angry with myself that I didn't buy several cans. Probably should stop painting.

  4. Spray painting the front panel is so easy and yet makes such a difference to the look. I notice you are building the transceiver modules into PCB boxes for shielding and using what looks like RCA audio sockets and plugs. That helps to explain why your rigs are stable! Have you tried SMA? Paul vk3hn.

  5. The name of this rig is the JABOM (Just A Bunch Of Modules). They were all built in homebrew copper boxes and you are correct the interconnects are RCA connectors. The LO is an AD9850. That said most of the current crop of radios use the SI5351 for generation of the LO as well as the BFO. Most of the Si5351 boards use the SMA connectors and thus all the radios with the Si5351 boards have some SMA. But I must say from a cost standpoint the SMA are a bit spendy and the RCA seem to work FB.

I looked at your blog and couldn't quickly put my fingers on a way to contact you via email as the JABOM was the subject of a published article which I was going to send to you. The rig has some interesting features.

    Thanks for your post.

    1. Hi Jim,

The manufacturer is Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover Paint + Primer Satin Oasis Blue. It will bond to plastic --another plus.

      Thanks for your post.

  8. Hi Arnaldo,

Thank you for your musical posting.

How about Blue Moon by the Marcels
or Blue Del Pinto de Blue (by that Italian guy Domenico ??)
    or Outta the Blue

Blue is such a great color whether on a radio or in the title of a song. I also find the radios painted blue work better.

    Ciao,
