Old Time "Vaporware" and More Build Stuff.

Gonset Mobile SSB Transceiver (Today's price $8673.45)

What a shock to spot advertising from some 65 years ago for products that I don't think actually made it to market. This is one of those products. In 1960 the MSB1 was half the price of a NIB 1960 VW Beetle.

This was probably a trial balloon that quickly broke based on the price point given today that $8674 is a huge sum for a ham rig! Vaporware of the 1960's.

Note the different Front Panel = Mockup

So, they ran a few ads using a mockup and tested the market only to likely find that the market wasn't there for something costing so much. In a blink of an eye soon there were competing products costing half as much and fit a lot better in the family budget.

The year 1960 was an exciting time reference as I was a freshman at Penn State, the Space Race was on, Cycle 19 was as hot as a Firecracker and of course many YL Coeds who were open to all sorts of adventures. So, who needs an $800 radio that wasn't even in production.

Yesterday was another productive day as I successfully built the back panel.

Note: Angle Stock now on top of the main Mounting Plate

You have got to love it when a plan comes together!

Lots of measuring and measuring a second time. I also had to make a small U Turn as I had to reverse mount the main plate and that left less room on the back apron just below the plate level.

Initially the angle stock was below the mounting plate and then reversed to above the main plate which had the effect of lowering the space under the main plate. So instead of the Jones Plug we went with a male type of octal socket. It was tight but we made it work. [Shades of 21.43 Stone Mary Jo. One Stone = 14 Pounds]

The reversal was to accommodate the Plate Tuning Cap shaft on the front panel giving about 0.5 inches of greater clearance.

Octal Power Plug Back Apron

Work planned for today is to cut angle stock for the very bottom edge of the front and back panels, cut holes in the back apron for the auxiliary audio output jack, locate the bias pot, antenna connector, ground post and external amp control jack.

Since the main mounting plate angle stock is now above the main plate, I need to notch the Final RF Amp shield assembly to account for the change.

Them that know can make things go.

Who are you kidding if you think that as a nation we are on the right course. Only the superrich must think that as their pockets get lined with even more riches. The jobs report out today provides more evidence that the jobs added were below expectations and the economy appears to be stalling. Hey majority pat yourself on the back, you voted for this. Are we headed for a recession?
