"Let them eat cake" is the traditional translation of the French phrase "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche",[1] said to have been spoken in the 18th century by "a great princess" upon being told that the peasants had no bread. The French phrase mentions brioche, a bread enriched with butter and eggs, considered a luxury food. The quote is taken to reflect either the princess's frivolous disregard for the starving peasants or her poor understanding of their plight." [Source = the Internet]
This past weekend was marked by world-wide violence. Some of it happening here in SoCal... RIP Rob Reiner and XYL. The answer as is typical is thoughts and prayers or as said by the princess: "Let Them Eat Cake". This is being "tone deaf" to the social problems that need to be addressed. Even today in the USA, there seems to be a focus outside of the core issues that generate such violence. It must be more fun to conduct ICE raids versus time spent fixing the immigration problem.
The season of Advent (Ad Venio) has at its roots the Latin meaning of "to come". With this coming is hope and anticipation of peace soon to follow in the new year. Regrettably for many Americans that is an empty promise clearly indelibly marked by high prices, inflation, instability, impacts to healthcare coverage and the availability of social services. Tone Deaf is at our doorstep.
Toys for Big Kids ~ Under $30
While you are contemplating spending $30 at Bozos (BoJack + Bezos) for one of these items, Christmas "soup kitchens" feeding the less fortunate can for that same sum provide 6 meals. Open your wallet and help some fellow Americans.
In closing, tone deaf can be the theory of simply not listening or with advanced age (near 80) an actual hearing loss. I suspect we have more of the former and a bit of the latter.
Them that know can make things go.
